California freeway driving "what fun" right! Not really especially when you lose the serpentine belt on yes my mini-van. Ok for those in the know my water pump, power steering, alternator and air conditioner also went non-operational. I am now driving a front wheel tank, good news I am only 9 miles from home (5 on the freeway 4 on a road with 4 stop lights) good news I only had to stop twice!
Ok why am I sharing this story with you? It's nearly 100 degrees and I decided to drive home and not stop on the freeway which meant I was now putting my Pontiac transport with 98,000 miles on it into what I would describe as an extreme driving condition, agree!
Now I'm sweating both physically and mentally, why didn't I just pull over I have free towing? Well my first oil change after the first 3000 miles was, yes you guessed it Amsoil 0W-30 Signature Series first introduced to me by my neighbor Jim Signorelli a drag racer and desert aficionado. So since I kept up my oil changes, in my mind I thought "heck it's only 9 miles" forget the tow.
Well I decided to park the tank on the street which proved tougher than I thought since I had to make a turn to face it in front of my house downhill (oh did I mention the steam!) well the next day I replaced the water pump, broken serpentine belt and coolant. Now for the big test, will it start (yay). 139,000 miles later (98,000+139,000=237,000) I donated my mini-van to Father Joe's with the engine still running and the transmission working like the first day I drove it why? Because I changed the transmission fluid to Amsoil ATF at 60,000.
